After Songkran and into summer: getting back on track
Songkran is great fun, but afterwards many of us feel our bodies could use some extra care. With the hot season in full swing, it's a good time to refocus on food, water, movement and rest.
This article brings together two pieces of Herbalife Thailand material: looking after yourself after Songkran, and getting fit for summer.
Drink enough water
- Drink plenty of plain water, especially after strongly flavoured or salty food
- The summer material suggests at least 8 glasses of water a day
- Choose unsweetened drinks such as water or green tea without added sugar
Cut back on sugary drinks and alcohol
- Holidays often mean more sweet drinks and alcohol than usual
- Scaling back helps you settle into your normal routine again
Choose nourishing food
- Focus on high-protein foods such as milk, fish and eggs — protein keeps you fuller for longer and is a key nutrient for muscles
- Eat fresh fruit and vegetables
- Pick whole grains and healthy fats
Move regularly
- Start with light activity such as brisk walking, yoga or any exercise you enjoy
- The summer material suggests running, swimming or yoga for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week
- In hot weather, avoid the strongest sun, drink water as you exercise and stop to rest if you feel dizzy or unwell
Get enough sleep
- Aim for at least 7–8 hours a night
- Enough sleep gives your body time to rest and get ready for the next day
