If you want more plant protein in your meals, peas, quinoa and rice are easy to find. Two sets of Herbalife Thailand material sum them up, both as everyday ingredients and as protein extracted from plants.

Peas

  • A source of protein and fibre
  • Contain folate, vitamin C and vitamin K
  • Protein isolated from yellow peas is high in lysine, an amino acid the body needs

Quinoa

  • Contains protein and fibre
  • Contains magnesium, iron and folate
  • A gluten-free whole grain with a wide range of vitamins and minerals
  • High in protein with plenty of essential amino acids, and higher in lysine, methionine and cysteine than most grains and pulses

Rice

  • Provides complex carbohydrates
  • Contains fibre, magnesium and manganese
  • Rice protein contains glutamine, plus amino acids such as cysteine and methionine

Using them in meals

  • Adapt them to suit your meals, for example brown rice or quinoa as the starch in a main meal
  • Eat a mix of plant proteins to get a wider range of amino acids
  • Nutritional values can vary with variety and cooking method, as the material notes
  • Sources cited in the material: Institute of Nutrition, Mahidol University; USDA FoodData Central; medthai.com; Journal of Nutraceuticals and Food Science
