Taking dietary supplements has become a popular choice for people who want to look after their health, but 'natural' doesn't automatically mean better. This summary is based on Herbalife Thailand material by Dr. Alex Teo, Director of Research and Development and Scientific Affairs, Asia Pacific, Herbalife.

Natural or synthetic — the science is what counts

  • A product's safety and effectiveness depend on its specific ingredients
  • They depend on the recommended amount
  • And on the possibility of interactions with other substances

Did you know?

  • Vitamins A, D, E and K can cause side effects if you take too much, even when they come from natural sources
  • Dietary supplements cannot replace medicines prescribed by your doctor — ask a health professional for advice

Before you start a supplement

  • Check that the product has been tested and quality-certified by a trusted organisation
  • If you take regular medication, talk to your doctor before starting
  • Read the ingredients and recommended amount on the label, and don't take more than stated
